If you haven't done this before the best article I've found is the Mandrake Secure article (a slightly more evolved version is available on the authors wiki). There are plenty of articles out there on setting up an OpenLDAP server, so I won't go into that here. You may or may not have good luck following these directions with older or newer versions. That you are using running OpenLDAP 2.0 on a Linux server (I'm using OpenLDAP 2.0.21 on a Redhat Linux 7.3 box).That you are using OSX 10.3/Panther as your client (I'm using 10.3.4).
